Gemotions

Her stomach flipped. She’d received the notice this morning, but couldn’t bring herself to reread it. It sat on the counter, a silent harbinger of change. She stared at it from the doorway.

She found herself unusually jumpy, startled by sudden noises. Her sleep had been restless. Every time she closed her eyes, she was picturing packed boxes and unfamiliar streets.

She went through the motions of her day, but felt detached. Everything around her, the familiar objects, the routine, seemed to have shifted. It felt like walking on uneven ground.
