Gemotions

The stained glass windows of the church cast kaleidoscopic patterns across the floor. James stood in the back, observing his brother, Michael. Michael had always been the golden boy. He was handsome, athletic, charming. Now, he was also a devout Mormon.

James shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of the silence that seemed to have settled on him. He felt as if he could disappear into the shadows. He didn't feel anything except the absence of feeling.

The hymns seemed to mock him, their joyous melodies a constant reminder of his own inner turmoil. He was a silent observer, watching a life he wasn't allowed to join.

Later, he walked aimlessly through the city streets. The bustling crowd, the flashing lights, all of it just blurred into meaningless noise.
