“Ethan: The Lost Years,” glared at him from the nightstand. His breath hitched as he flipped the book open. His life, he found, had been dissected and put on display. The details of his failures were now public. He threw the covers off, his skin prickling with sweat.

He spent most of the day in bed. He skipped his usual morning run. He skipped lunch, not having the motivation to get up. The world outside his window was too bright, too vibrant. He retreated from the world, wishing that he could simply disappear.
