He slumped deeper into the uncomfortable plastic chair, the harsh fluorescent lights of the gate reflecting in his vacant eyes. David had missed his daughter's graduation. The ceremony had been live-streamed, but the delay meant he'd only caught the last few moments. He’d envisioned the moment for months – the proud smile, the congratulatory hug.
