Gemotions

The flickering neon sign outside the diner cast long, distorted shadows across the table. David stirred his coffee, the bitter taste doing little to dispel the hollowness that had settled deep within him. He watched Sarah, across from him, her gaze flitting nervously towards the door. The hushed conversations, the excuses, the disappearances, were too much.

His voice felt trapped in his throat. He used to be the one she'd looked to for strength, for reassurance. Now, he was just a shadow, a presence she seemed keen to escape. He felt a profound sense of inadequacy, as if he had somehow failed at everything.

He could feel the familiar weight in his chest, the dull ache of resignation. He just wanted it all to stop. He wanted to go home, sit in silence and fade away.
