The cold tile floor offered no solace to Clara’s bare feet. She knelt in the bathroom, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She ran a hand across her face, feeling the fatigue etched into her features. She looked old. She had been feeling this for weeks. She'd found the phone records last night.

The discovery had left her reeling. Her hands shook, her mind racing. The lies, the deception, the stolen moments, it all felt like a physical blow. She felt as though she was being pulled apart. The world around her was falling away.

She felt a crushing sense of inadequacy. He found her boring, she knew. He was looking for something more exciting, something… different. She wanted to scream. She wanted to disappear. She turned on the faucet, and let the water flow, tears blurring her vision.
