He slumped onto the floor beside the overflowing storage bin. His mother’s legacy, a testament to her meticulous nature. He’d come seeking some old photos, anything to conjure a feeling of something, anything but this... emptiness.

Each item was a small stab. A report on the solar system, meticulously researched. A science project diorama, constructed with care. His own projects, now brittle and faded, felt like accusations.

He imagined his mom, beaming with pride as she’d examined each item. He could feel the weight of her love. Now, he was incapable of creating such a thing. He felt the familiar pressure in his chest, a deep ache. He felt very little.
