Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. She stared at the computer screen, the words of her teenage self mocking her with their naive optimism. "Dear Diary, I'm going to be a famous writer someday!" the entry blared. Now, years later, she worked a dead-end job, her writing aspirations buried under a mountain of bills and self-doubt. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through the comments – a chorus of laughter, ridicule, and outright cruelty. Each click of the mouse was a fresh blow.

Her stomach churned, a cold knot forming in her gut. She leaned back in her chair, the cheap plastic creaking in protest. The room felt cold despite the radiator hissing weakly. Pulling her cardigan tighter, she considered shutting down the computer, but the urge to read one more comment, to punish herself further, was overwhelming.

The phone rang, shattering the silence. It was her mother, always checking in, always offering unsolicited advice. Amelia let it go to voicemail. She couldn't face the hollow platitudes, the forced cheerfulness. She felt as heavy as the sky pressing down outside.
