Gemotions

Rain lashed at the grimy windows of the tiny apartment as Sarah hunched over a lukewarm cup of instant coffee. Another rejection email sat in her inbox, the words blurring through the exhaustion in her eyes. The weight of unpaid bills pressed down on her chest, each missed deadline a fresh wave of despair. She dragged herself out of the chair, needing air.

A flicker of movement caught her eye as she passed a yard sale. Amongst the discarded trinkets and forgotten treasures, a familiar shape sat slumped on a table – a faded, familiar bear. Its button eyes seemed to stare, judging her. A wave of nausea hit her, a deep-seated ache that had become her constant companion.

She hesitated, then approached the table, her hands trembling. The bear’s fur was matted, its once cheerful grin now a sad, lopsided curve. She remembered the warmth of its embrace, the simple comfort it had always offered. Now, it was just another cast-off, a relic of a time when everything hadn’t felt so…heavy.
