Gemotions

The bus rattled and swayed through the city streets. Michael stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, blurring the world outside. Another interview, another disappointment. He felt like he was invisible, unseen, unheard. He felt the familiar ache in his chest. He saw a wallet on the seat beside him.

He picked it up. A thick wad of cash spilled out when he opened it. He scanned the contents; credit cards, a driver's license. The name wasn't his. He felt a moment of panic.

He could keep it, use it to escape. He could disappear. To start over. He thought about the small apartment, the empty fridge, the bills piling up on his desk. He felt the weight of the city pressing down on him, crushing him.

He slammed the wallet back down on the seat and got off at the next stop, the rain soaking his clothes.
