He stared at his reflection, the face staring back gaunt and tired. His roommate, Alex, had been unusually quiet this week. He'd find him looking at him sometimes, a strange expression on his face. Now he knew.

I hated that I let her see it. His thoughts were a jumbled mess. He knew he'd been foolish to trust the journal, to believe it was a safe space.

He ran his hand over his face, feeling the stubble of a forgotten shave. He had to act like nothing was wrong. He had to maintain the charade. But the effort was exhausting, each breath an exercise in deception.
