Gemotions

The box was addressed to "David Archer." He knew the name, the memories of the previous tenant a hazy echo. He barely noticed it; he had other things to contend with.

He tore open the cardboard, a careless gesture. Inside was a collection of old photographs. A lifetime of moments, captured and preserved. Family, friends, holidays. He dropped the photos.

He stood in the doorway, the box forgotten at his feet, the world a vast, indifferent ocean. He felt himself shrinking, fading into the background of his own life.
