The dog’s muddy paws left trails on the newly mowed grass. It was a perfect day, the type she was meant to love. Her own life, however, was as messy as the dog was. The dog looked up at her, tail wagging, as if expecting a game. But she couldn't summon a smile.

She stood frozen, the scent of the dog, the damp earth, it all felt like a reflection of the emptiness that filled her. It was a constant companion, this feeling of not being able to measure up.

With a sigh, she picked up a fallen leaf, rubbing it between her fingers. Her own house needed cleaning, the dishes were piled high, and the bills remained unpaid. A sense of overwhelming defeat washed over her. The dog barked. She was trapped in the quiet horror of her own inaction.
