He sat on the bleachers, watching the team practice. The familiar routine, the thud of the ball, the shouts of the coach, all felt distorted. Alex had known, deep down. He hadn’t been playing well. But the finality of the decision still stung. The jersey felt too big now.

He felt a deep sense of inadequacy. He took a deep breath, trying to dispel the feeling of hollowness that had settled inside him. The other players were focused, giving it their all. He had no more to give. He stood up, slowly, and began walking towards the exit. The weight of his disappointment settled heavily on him.
