Gemotions

Michael lingered at the edge of the dance floor, watching the couples sway. He felt a surge of envy, followed by a deeper sense of isolation. He couldn't remember the last time he felt happy or at ease.

He had promised his parents a heartfelt speech. He had spent hours attempting to write something meaningful, but all that came out was a jumble of half-formed thoughts and clumsy phrases. He thought of all the things he'd never accomplished, the dreams he'd abandoned.

The music swelled, and the dance floor filled. He watched from the sidelines, feeling a weight in his chest. A feeling of profound absence.
