The relentless ticking of the clock was the only sound in David's small office. The weight of his failures pressed down on him. He had been a failure at everything. His colleagues avoided him. He felt the world closing in.

"David, did you ever go to Camp Echo Lake?" The question came from Jessica, the new intern, a girl full of life and vitality.

David flinched. He had gone to Camp Echo Lake. It was a camp for kids with learning difficulties. He had been the worst student in his class. He had spent the summer trying to be normal.

He stared at the floor, unable to meet her gaze. He just mumbled something and turned away. The world seemed to shrink around him.
