The musty air of the solicitor's office seemed to press down on Leo, the weight of the mahogany table adding to the crushing sense of inadequacy. His sister, Clara, sat opposite him, her eyes bright with anticipation. He, on the other hand, felt a dull ache in his chest.

His gaze flickered to the lawyer, a kind-faced man who began to detail the estate. Clara would receive the family home, a sprawling Victorian manor. Leo? A small, framed photograph of their grandfather and a handful of forgotten postcards.

Leo forced a smile, murmuring congratulations. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck. The room swam slightly. He excused himself quickly, hurrying outside, the cool air doing little to soothe the sudden chill that had settled in his bones.

He wandered aimlessly, clutching the useless photograph. Its weight felt insignificant in his hand, a mirror reflecting his own perceived lack of value.
