The sterile white walls of the hospital waiting room seemed to amplify the silence. Daniel fidgeted, his hands clammy. His sister, Olivia, hummed a tuneless melody, her usual upbeat self, seemingly unaffected by the reading of the will. He, on the other hand, felt his throat constrict.

The lawyer cleared his throat. Olivia was bequeathed the family's thriving tech company, a beacon of innovation and success. Daniel, however, received his father's old toolbox and a collection of forgotten family photographs.

He wanted to scream, to lash out. The toolbox, an empty shell, felt like a cruel joke.
