Gemotions

The email notification pinged, a jarring sound in her otherwise silent apartment. The subject line: "Your childhood home is now available." Her fingers trembled as she clicked. Inside, the images assaulted her, the familiar layout, the rooms that once held so much promise.

She felt a tightening in her chest, a physical pressure that made it difficult to breathe. The pictures showed a "fully renovated kitchen," a "spacious backyard." A knot of despair formed in her stomach. She hadn't even managed to keep her own apartment tidy, her life a chaotic jumble of unpaid bills and broken promises.

She pulled the covers up over her head, wanting to disappear, to vanish from the world's judgemental gaze. The weight of her past, of all the things she hadn't accomplished, pressed down on her, leaving her feeling utterly insignificant.
