He had always felt like a ghost, a shadow flitting at the edges of his own life. The diagnosis, the lack of a proper job, the endless cycle of rejection. Mark had grown used to the feeling of being unseen. His phone rang, a call from a number he didn't recognize. "I need to meet with you," a woman's voice, hesitant, at the other end. "It's about your father."

The waiting room was filled with the usual trappings of success, a sharp contrast to his own life. The woman introduced herself as Sarah, her eyes holding a deep sorrow. She was the one who was his half-sister. He listened, numb, as she explained his father's second family. A perfect family, a loving wife, a successful life, unlike his own.

After their meeting, Mark wandered through the park, watching the people. A young couple, holding hands, laughing, sharing a slice of pizza. He felt… hollow. A vast emptiness stretched inside him, echoing with a silence that was deafening. He sat on a bench, the world a vibrant painting he wasn't allowed to be a part of.
