The vibrant colors of the mural were a cruel mockery. He had to clench his teeth to keep back the words of bitterness that threatened to explode out of his mouth. Weeks of effort, late nights under the glare of a streetlamp, sketching, painting, perfecting every line of the artwork, and now it had been attributed to a more famous artist.

He watched the people admire the mural, the same one he had poured his soul into, and his stomach lurched. The artist was getting all the credit and the validation, something that he yearned for, and he was nothing more than an invisible ghost. His breath hitched as tears welled in his eyes.
