"How could I have been so stupid?" Sarah whispered, the words catching in her throat. The test lay discarded on the floor, crumpled and stained with a tear. She’d spent weeks preparing, sacrificing sleep and social events. Now, the hours she’d poured into studying seemed to evaporate into nothingness. The confidence she’d built up, slowly and painstakingly, had been shattered. She curled up on the rug, wrapping her arms around herself, as if trying to ward off a cold wind that only she could feel.
