Gemotions

The afternoon stretched before him, an endless expanse of emptiness. Then came the knock, sharp and unwelcome. It was Ms. Davies, her face a mask of practiced concern. "That towering poplar," she began, the words carefully chosen. "I'm worried about it."

He felt the familiar thrum of unease in his bones. He knew this dance. The poplar, a symbol of life, was just another source of anxiety. He had become a ghost in his own house.

She spoke of potential hazards, of falling branches, of disruption. He stared out the window, watching a lone bird flit from branch to branch. His life, like that bird, felt trapped. She wanted to know the decision. He just stood there, unable to speak, the weight of her words a physical burden.
