The restaurant buzzed with laughter and chatter, but it all seemed distant to him. He was at a charity event, forced by his family to attend. He felt like an imposter, a fraud. His own issues made him feel like he had nothing to give.

He’d tried to get a job, he had tried to volunteer but his physical and emotional limitations got in the way. He had no control over his episodes, and the humiliation he suffered was crushing. He hated the pitying glances, the hushed whispers. He hated feeling like a failure.

Suddenly, a woman across the room collapsed, gasping for breath. The room fell silent. He looked away, wanting to disappear.

But then, the woman looked directly at him, her eyes wide with fear. And he knew. He couldn't ignore her. He had to act.
