“Another rejection?” Mark asked, his voice flat. He looked at the half-eaten pizza on the coffee table. He was going on his tenth year as a struggling actor. He felt a persistent ache in his chest, a heaviness that refused to lift.

He found the file on his girlfriend’s laptop, hidden in a folder labeled “Project.” The main character, a man perpetually stuck in the wings, forever overshadowed by others, felt deeply familiar. It was him, or at least, the version of him he secretly feared he was.

He read the descriptions of his failed auditions, the details of his self-deprecating humor, the way he always seemed to fall short. He felt a deep sense of… unworthiness. He closed the laptop, the screen reflecting his own defeated face.
