The empty beer cans on the coffee table were a testament to his wasted time. Liam hadn't left his apartment in days, the world outside a place he couldn't face. He went to the balcony, the city lights blurring in the distance. He remembered a patch of earth in the corner of the small balcony. He knelt and began digging, finding a small, forgotten metal box. It contained a mix tape, a collection of photos of friends, and a handwritten list of goals. He closed the box, a wave of weariness washing over him, and tossed it back into the hole, covering it with dirt. The feeling was like a lead weight pressing down on his chest.
