The list was on the refrigerator, held in place by a magnet shaped like a smiling sun. A mocking sun. "Travel to Japan." "Learn to code." "Run a marathon." He stared at it, the words blurring through the film of tears that had suddenly sprung to his eyes. He’d promised her support, promised her adventure. He'd done none of it.

His apartment felt small, the walls closing in. He felt a sudden, intense craving for escape. He looked around his apartment, filled with the remnants of his life. It felt like a collection of dust. He felt himself shrink.
