The skin on her arms erupted in goosebumps. Eleanor listened, her breath catching in her throat as her grandfather, the beloved patriarch of their Jewish family, announced he was now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. *This can't be real,* she thought, the words a frantic mantra in her head. Her vision blurred, and the faces around the table seemed to swim in a haze. She gripped her hands into fists, her nails digging into her palms. The laughter she normally loved seemed jarring. “But… what about the holidays?” she finally managed, her voice strained. The joy had fled from the room, replaced by a chilling premonition.
