Gemotions

The crayon slipped from Amelia’s suddenly clammy hand. Her niece, Lily, was happily coloring at the kitchen table, her tongue peeking out in concentration. Amelia, however, felt a chill crawl up her spine. The drawing showed a lanky figure with mismatched eyes, exactly as she remembered him. Her imaginary friend, Finn, the one she'd banished long ago.

A tremor rattled through her. She needed to leave the room, to get away from the image, but her feet felt rooted to the spot. “Lily, honey, what are you drawing?” she managed, her voice sounding tight and unfamiliar.

Lily beamed, holding up the picture. “Mr. Finn! He’s playing in the park with me today.” Amelia's chest constricted. She swallowed hard, the taste of metal flooding her mouth. The park? The same park where Finn used to hide in the shadows, waiting.
