Gemotions

A tremor ran through Amelia as she saw the name pop up. Mark Henderson. The name she hadn't thought about in years, the face she'd tried to erase. Her fingers hovered over the decline button, then she noticed her heart was hammering. She quickly closed the laptop, a wave of nausea washing over her. She got up and walked around the kitchen, her hands kneading the air, needing to do something, anything, to distract herself.

She went to the sink and poured herself a glass of water, the cool liquid barely registering as she gulped it down. The screen saver flickered behind her, taunting her. She hadn't even looked at his profile. What did he want? Why now?

She sat in the armchair, clutching the cushion as she focused on deep breathing. Maybe she was overreacting. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Still, she jumped at the sound of a truck outside. She was not the same person she was at fourteen. She was stronger. Right?
