The world seemed to shrink around Chloe. She saw the name: Jason Pike. The old playground bullies always find a way to resurface. She sat at her kitchen table, staring blankly at the screen. She felt the urge to cry. She didn't.

She gripped her mug, the ceramic cold against her skin. She had spent years building a safe life, away from anyone who could hurt her. She hadn’t expected to see him again. Now, what?

She needed to move. She needed to do something. She put on some music, turned the volume up loud, and started cleaning the already immaculate apartment, trying to make the unease recede.
