He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, as if something had seized him. The drawing was almost complete, and he recognized the figure instantly. "The Silent Watcher" – a creature he had long ago banished from his memory. His young nephew, Ethan, looked up at him with innocent eyes.

His throat constricted. He found himself incapable of speech, his gaze fixated on the drawing. He tried to smile, but his lips felt frozen.

Ethan was still chattering about the character’s adventures. He excused himself, citing an important phone call, and retreated to the guest room, to sit alone.
