John sat at his desk, staring blankly at his computer screen. The information had been shared carelessly. The new intern, hired at a higher rate. John's chest felt constricted. His heart rate had quickened.

He glanced at his phone, hesitating before dialing his wife. The conversation would be difficult, the questions unavoidable. His hand slowly lowered the phone.

The office seemed to shrink around him, the walls closing in. He felt the need to escape, to run. He pushed his chair back, his knuckles white. The air conditioning was suddenly too cold.
