The news hit Brenda like a physical blow. The pay slip. A colleague, less experienced, earning more. She felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.

She stood abruptly, needing to move, to do something. She grabbed her coat and practically ran out of the office, ignoring the calls of her coworkers. The street outside was a blur of movement.

She walked fast, her pace increasing with each step. Her breath came in ragged gasps. The knot in her stomach tightened with every block. The fear of being undervalued and the dread of an upcoming confrontation flooded her.
