"I don't believe it," Claire whispered, her voice barely audible. The letter, found in an old copy of *Little Women*, detailed a long-lost family secret. It spoke of a buried treasure, but also of a curse.

The wind howled outside, rattling the windows of the old farmhouse. She felt a cold dread creep into her stomach. She paced the kitchen, her mind racing. The shadows in the corners seemed to dance.

She wished she hadn't found it. Every creak of the house, every sudden noise, sent a jolt of panic through her. She had a sudden urge to flee, to disappear. She grabbed her coat, not even bothering to fasten it, and ran out the back door into the stormy night.
