Gemotions

The old library smelled of paper and dust, and for the first time, to Leo, it was a place of unease. He'd been looking for a specific volume, but instead, he'd found a letter tucked inside a copy of *Hamlet*. It was written in a formal script, filled with veiled threats.

He looked up. The librarian, a woman he knew by sight, seemed to stare at him. He didn’t trust her anymore. He felt a sudden urge to get away, but his legs felt leaden.

He abruptly pushed the book back onto the shelf, his heart hammering against his chest. He backed away slowly, his eyes darting around the room. He felt the cold sweat begin to form on his brow, the air in the library becoming increasingly thin. He made his way to the exit, his hand grasping the handle, but not able to open it yet. He needed to be sure he would be safe.
