The date was printed in large, bold letters on the calendar that hung in his kitchen. He found himself staring at it, the numbers blurring, the color of the ink fading. The high school reunion was fast approaching. He felt a coldness creeping across his skin.

He'd spent years carefully constructing his life, rebuilding his self-worth. He was successful, happy, or at least, that’s what he told himself. The reunion threatened to unravel everything, to expose the vulnerabilities he had so diligently concealed. The thought made him feel physically ill.

He ran a hand over his face, his fingers trembling. He'd crafted a new persona, a polished exterior, a world built on careful calculation and constant vigilance. He was not sure he could face the people who once knew him so well.
