The flickering television screen cast an eerie glow on Mark's face as he sat alone in his apartment. He’d discovered the photos hidden in his grandfather's old military trunk. The images showed his grandfather, a man of rigid morality, in a series of compromising situations, in nightclubs and fancy cars.

He felt his stomach clench. He picked up another photograph, this one showing his grandmother, a woman he always thought was simple and sweet, laughing with a man who was not his grandfather. The weight of these new images made him gasp.

He muted the television and stared at the photographs, his mind racing. The apartment, which had always felt like a safe haven, suddenly felt constricting. He abruptly stood up and paced the room, needing to move, to do something, anything, to escape the suffocating weight of the revelations.
