Gemotions

The phone rang just as I was about to leave for the day. It was my boss. His voice was unusually strained. As he spoke, his words were a punch in the gut. I gripped the receiver so tightly my knuckles ached.

The world seemed to shrink around me. The vibrant city noises outside my window turned into a dull roar. The weight of the impending uncertainty pressed down on me. I listened intently, my every muscle tensed.

When he finished, I could only manage a weak "Okay." I hung up the phone slowly, my hand trembling. I stood there, frozen, staring out the window at the darkening sky. The familiar landscape seemed menacing.
