A tremor ran through Finn’s hands as he held the brittle parchment. His sister, Maya, was practically bouncing beside him, her eyes shining with avarice. The lawyer had presented them with the details of their uncle’s estate. She had inherited a sprawling mansion; he, a dilapidated lighthouse on a desolate island.

He glanced towards the window. The ocean stretched out before him, a vast, indifferent expanse that mirrored the emptiness inside. The prospect of being isolated there, weathering storms both literal and metaphorical, filled him with unease.

“Are you alright, Finn?” Maya asked, her voice sharp with impatience. “This is an amazing opportunity for me! The parties I can throw!” She was already drawing up blueprints, oblivious to the dread that threatened to consume him. Finn swallowed, unable to meet her gaze.
