The lawyer had smiled, his teeth gleaming like predatory fangs. “A fascinating split.” Daniel stared at the ancient, ornate compass he had been given. His sister, Chloe, had inherited a successful art gallery. His hands felt clumsy as he examined the compass’s intricate workings.

He tried to turn the dial, but his fingers fumbled. The needle began to spin wildly. A wave of dizziness washed over him, and a shiver ran through his bones. The gallery was calling him, but it was nothing like what he truly wanted.
