The cold steel of the cell door clanged shut, a sound that echoed in Anya’s ears. Her brother, Ben, had inherited their grandfather’s vast fortune and land. Anya, however, was given the prison, a small one with only one cell.

A chill snaked up her spine as she examined the bare stone walls. The air was thin, carrying the stench of despair and decay. She had no idea why she had been given this place, but the implications terrified her.

Ben was outside, the sound of the party he was throwing faintly audible. He hadn't bothered to look back, and the knowledge made her heart feel hollow.
