“Found the victim’s diary tucked away in the attic,” the historian had said cheerfully. “Fascinating stuff, though a bit… macabre.” Daniel's stomach churned as he imagined the victim’s final thoughts, now haunting his new home.

He became obsessed with security cameras, installing them inside and out. His usual jovial greetings to neighbors were replaced with curt nods, and a guarded expression.

He started sleeping on the couch, the windows in the living room allowing him to see the front door, the street. He felt vulnerable. The very walls seemed to whisper secrets, to mock his attempts to feel safe.
