Gemotions

The email arrived late at night. She had been grading papers, the fluorescent lights of her study casting long shadows across the room. The subject line was simply, "Remember Me?" Her hand froze over the mouse.

A coldness settled in her bones, a primal instinct to stay away. She knew it was from Ben, even before she opened the message. His words were always so… oblique, so laced with a veiled, almost threatening, intensity.

The air in the room seemed to thicken. She felt as though something heavy was pressing down on her chest, making it hard to breathe. Her vision swam. She took a shaky breath and slowly moved the cursor towards the delete button.
