The gift arrived in the form of a cryptic social media message. A former student, Sarah, had posted a photo of a vintage typewriter on her feed, accompanied by a single sentence: “You inspired me.” The image of the typewriter, along with the vague message, hit her hard.

She sank into her chair, her hands clammy. Sarah had always been quiet, withdrawn, but intensely observant. She had a look about her which made one cautious. What was she trying to tell her?

A wave of nausea washed over her. She scrolled back through Sarah's recent posts, searching for context, for any clue. Her stomach churned. The silence that had descended on the room was suddenly deafening.
