David backed away from the opening, his legs stiffening. The contents of the time capsule were unsettling. Old journals, photographs, and a tarnished key, none of which he could place. The handwriting was his, yet the words read like a stranger’s confession.

He felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle. He felt a constant pressure on his chest, constricting his breath. The photographs seemed to follow him. He wanted to scream. He was struck by the urge to just run and not look back.
