Gemotions

The chipped paint on the front porch. The loose brick on the walkway. The familiar imperfections of the house swam into view, triggering an immediate sensation of dread. Emily sucked in a breath. It was as if she had never left.

Her mother's voice, chirping like a bird, floated out of the open window, "Emily, are you here yet?" The sound sent a jolt of anxiety through her.

She quickly grabbed her bags, forcing herself to walk toward the house. She had a sudden, overwhelming need to escape, to be anywhere else. She clenched her jaw, and pushed the door open.
