The drive back had been quiet. He didn't speak the entire trip. Now, parked on the street, he stared at the familiar façade of the house. He felt the blood draining from his face, leaving him cold and clammy.

He took his time, putting off the inevitable. He’d lost his job, his apartment, and now he was going to be forced to become a child again. He felt a huge weight pressing down on his chest.

His father came out to greet him, a forced smile plastered on his face. “Come on in, son.” The words were a command, an invitation he couldn't refuse. He slowly pulled himself out of the car.
