The email arrived, and the subject line hit me like a physical blow: “Welcome to Mrs. Gable’s Class!” My chest felt constricted. The woman. My fifth-grade teacher. A shiver ran down my spine, making me remember the long hours of homework.

My fingers trembled as I clicked the link. I could barely focus on the welcome letter, my mind already racing. I felt an unexpected wave of nausea. I had an overwhelming urge to call my daughter, to warn her, even though I didn’t know what I was warning her about.
