He slammed the laptop shut with a resounding thud. Thomas paced his apartment, the hardwood floor creaking under his rapid steps. He raked a hand through his hair, his heart hammering against his ribs. The possibility of the wrong diagnosis, the wrong treatment, the wrong everything, consumed him.

"This is a disaster," he growled under his breath, his voice tight with tension. He checked his phone again, hoping for a different message, a retraction, anything to undo this mistake. Nothing.

He felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He needed to sit down, to gather his thoughts, but his legs felt like lead. He felt trapped, a prisoner in his own body.
